Link to N2 – Network of Networks
N² unites more than 15.000 doctoral researchers of Germany’s non-university research organizations to discuss the future of science – its working conditions, career perspectives and impact on society.
In March 2017 the Spokespersons of Max Planck PhDnet, Helmholtz Juniors and Leibniz PhD Network released the official letter to create “Network of Networks” known as N². The platform, that is now an established focal point promoting every topic concerning doctoral researchers, was joined in 2018 by the International PhD Programme at the IMB Mainz as an associated member.
N² represents the collective interests of doctoral researchers within the research performing organizations in Germany and aims to work closer together on the following topics:
- Working conditions and equal opportunities for doctoral researchers in non-university organizations and beyond;
- Career opportunities for doctoral researchers in Germany;
- Science policy in Germany and Europe (for instance, issuing a political statement on the future of young scientists in October 2017)
- Organizing joint events for doctoral researchers
- Promotion of good scientific practice and prevention of power abuse in academia
2019 Survey
In 2019, N² intiated a harmonized survey questionnaire which was sent to doctoral researchers in all four member organizations. The aim was to be able to compare the results between the organizations and increase their significance. The respective survey reports can be found here:
In early December, we will present the survey results in a video Q&A sessions. Updates will follow soon!
N² Spokespersons
The elected spokespersons of the three networks form the Board and are the representatives of N2. Former spokespersons of the three networks are members of the advisory board.
